Ink Conservation Tips for Regular Printer Users

A maintenance practice that needs to be done regularly by printer owners is to dab its head with ink, but some printers can do this automatically as part of their original design. This function is characterized by the strange noise at the onset of the equipment’s operation once the user clicks on the “Print” button on his or her computer. Ink economy varies by printer make and model, but there are printers that do not conserve ink as much as the others.

Despite this issue, researchers believe there's no need to sacrifice performance by choosing an ink-efficient model. You can get ideal print quality while save on ink replacement costs at the same time. Printer ink conservation all boils down to how you use your printer.

For one, owners of these ink guzzlers can get more ink for their buck by leaving the printer on, reducing the frequency of the maintenance cycle mentioned above. As for power consumption issues, inkjet printers are known to consume up to 90 percent less power in operational mode than laser printers. Modern printers can go on sleep mode on their own after a long time of being on standby, saving more power in the process.

Other ink-saving tips include avoiding an early cartridge change. The best indication of a necessary printer ink cartridge change is when the next page comes out pale or blank. Paying attention to notifications of low ink levels also help.

Spot Problems in Toner and Driver when Printing

Survey your workplace quickly, and chances are, you’ll see at least one printer. After all, how would contracts, employee evaluations, budget proposals, or office memos be reviewed and signed without being printed out first? Despite the usefulness of such office equipment though, it can still have problems every now and then.

Quality Printer Ink Cartridges: Vital Elements in Office Operations

"If you’re running an office that depends on many reams of paper, any printers you have will probably run out of toner before long. This, in turn, can lead to disruptions in the office workflow. Naturally, you will want find ways to keep the momentum going. Part of that endeavor involves acquiring new printer ink cartridges from reputable suppliers such as Concord Supplies. Saving on Ink and Avoiding the Horrors of Empty Ink Toner Cartridges

"Perhaps you've experienced that moment when the printer refuses to cooperate. To prevent the inconveniences brought about by empty ink toner cartridges, you might want to follow some tips on stretching the lifespan of your ink supply. Before you get started, keep in mind that manufacturers like Concord Supplies have different types of ink for different types of printers. Therefore, you should first make sure that your ink type matches your printer type. If you’re using a Xerox Phaser 8560 printer, for example, you will have to use Xerox Phaser 8560 ink to achieve the best printing results. Moving forward, one way to save on ink is by using the best paper. This doesn’t necessarily mean the most expensive; it means the compatibility of the copy paper with the printer and ink. Most of the time, there is a higher level of paper quality and compatibility with the manufacturer of your printer. Since manufacturers create the printer and ink, they obviously know which type of paper coating

Troubleshooting Common Problems that Printer Toner Cartridges Have

"Spotty or Degraded Image Quality This problem may be caused by a dirty corona wires. Since laser printer toner cartridges contain powder instead of liquid ink, the corona wires emit a static charge that allows the paper to hold on to the powder so it can be melted by the heat roller. The wires are usually located near the paper rollers and should be gently cleaned with a dry swab. Uneven Print Density If your cartridge has more toner on one side than the other, it could result in pages with uneven print density— that is, one side is darker and the other is lighter. Remove the toner cartridge and give it a gentle side-to-side shake to redistribute the powder inside. Never shake it vigorously in an up-and-down manner or the contents may spill out. Also, make sure that the printer is sitting on an even surface to prevent this from happening again."

Good Deals: Buy School Supplies Online for Convenience and Savings

"Furthermore, pay attention to those sites that offer an attractive school supply sale so you can get what you need at discounted prices. As DeMoe also says: Proximity to required supplies is not the only headache that parents experience. Perhaps the biggest issue locally stems from the fact that the original list given to parents rarely contains everything they need. Often times teachers will ask for additional, classroom specific items shortly after the school year begins. Hence, as you would most likely need to buy more supplies as the school year progresses, it would help to find the best buys now to save on costs without having to elbow your way into crowded stores. Resolving Printer Cartridge and Toner Difficulties

Businesses and homes alike can't do without their laser printers, relying on the devices' rapid printing speed, vibrant color output, and affordable printer toner cartridges. However, if you’ve ever owned one, you're most likely familiar with the challenges in maintaining such devices, especially when it comes to print quality. Users should be able to identify potential problems to better respond to such emergencies.

If the printer produces a poor image quality, it can be due to dirty corona wires. Since laser printer toner cartridges contain powder instead of liquid ink, the corona wires emit a static charge that allows paper to hold on to the powder so it can be melted by the heat roller. The wires are usually located near the paper rollers and should be gently cleaned with a dry swab.

Meanwhile, your cartridge having more toner on one side than the other can result in pages with uneven print density. This means that one side is dark and the other is light. An easy trick to solve this is to remove the toner cartridge and give it a gentle side-to-side shake to redistribute the powder inside.

Additionally, toners could vary in their page yield due to certain factors. For example, complex projects that use lots of color will deplete the cartridge faster than simple black-and-white documents. For first draft documents, you can always lower your print quality settings to extend your cartridges’ yield.

Solving Printer Issues Like Paper Jams & Low Ink Toner Cartridges

Sometimes, your printer will inform you that your ink toner cartridges’ levels are low. While all printers have ink level sensors, their accuracy may not always be spot on. As long as you’re getting clear printouts, you can treat such notifications as friendly reminders. That being said, it’s always wise to have spare ink on hand should you find yourself with an important multi-page project that needs printing. If you have a Xerox Phaser 6180, for example, take the initiative and buy an extra Xerox Phaser 6180 toner just to be safe.

Getting to Know the Different Types of Binders

Offices use binders to systematically keep documents. While nearly all industries have embraced digital technology, printed documents remain valuable for various reasons. Binders ease access to these documents, allowing office workers to find the paper they need without spending a long time scouring through the storage room. Here are some popular types of binders that can be found in offices.

Soft cover binders. Usually made of thin plastic or heavy paper, soft cover binders are flexible and therefore normally used to bind documents at a small scale, particularly around 30 to 40 sheets of regular paper. Some soft cover binders are see-through to allow users to view the first page of the bound documents for easy reference. The thickness of this binder comes pretty handy to be carried around the office.

Pocket binders. Some binders have pockets inside them to provide additional storage space for documents that simply cannot be bound with the rest of the documents. These binders usually have hard covers made of leather, thick heavy paper, or plastic. Often designed with wide spine, they can accommodate more than 40 sheets of regular paper, making them ideal for large-scale binding in storage rooms.

Ring Binders. Unlike other types of binders, this one's holding capacity depends on the size of the ring on its spine. This means that they are designed to hold more paper. However, the documents to be bound have to be punched first.

Buy Now or Wait? Tips for School Supply Purchase

It’s common for students and their parents to flood a back-to-school supply sale, especially if they’re buying from actual stores rather than online. While buyers may be tempted to purchase everything in their school supply checklist, some items are better bought at a later time than bought in a sale, and vice versa.

Obviously, basic school supplies, such as notebooks, writing instruments, and papers, should be bought at the drop of the hat, but if they are really after saving money, they should do so only when their stock has already been exhausted . It’s also more practical to buy in bulk rather than purchase these supplies by piece; another advantage of bulk purchases is that parents have to head to school supply stores less frequently. Water bottles, lunch boxes, and book bags need not to be replaced every year, provided that they’re still in good condition (functionally and aesthetically).

College students who live in dorms have other things to consider such as toiletries, furniture, cooking ware, and the like, although these items are rarely part of a school supply sale. As such, they can be purchased at any time of the year. However, college students can still benefit from keeping their eye out for sales of these items.

Art for Fun’s Sake: On Art Supplies for School

Young kids especially love coloring materials since these allow them to freely express their creativity. It’s no wonder then that most children cite their art classes as their favorite period in school. Whether kids are drawing their favorite things or sculpting animals in clay, they are in their element whenever they’re given a chance to flex their creative muscles.

Given the sheer popularity of hands-on art classes, one can only imagine how much art supplies each school uses each year per student. Unlike most other implements that can be reused multiple times, it doesn’t take long for a crayon to wear down or for modeling clay to lose pliability. Kids will naturally burn through art supplies to fuel their creations so they should have a sufficient amount of art supplies to go around.

Both parents and educators have a responsibility to provide the kids with enough art supplies to stoke their creativity. Typically, it would be advantageous to buy competitively-priced art supplies in bulk from supply stores around town although many other parents are likely to have the same idea. To avoid the bedlam, buyers have the option of purchasing art supplies online, which can be both convenient and even more inexpensive.

Choosing Computer Chairs for Your Small Business

If you have recently opened a small business, and you have hired a few people to do basic tasks such as bookkeeping and payroll processing, you’ll need to provide your employees with comfortable computer chairs that won't cause them any back pain. Otherwise, you're bound to see them fidgeting in their seats the whole day, which may likely hinder their work performance. If this problem persists, you’ll likely see them drop like flies; after all, no one likes to work for a boss who doesn't provide a comfortable and safe work environment.

Choosing computer chairs is easy as long as you know what to look for. A good-quality computer chair should be ergonomic, among other things, which means the chair is designed for the user's optimum comfort. The chair should also have an adjustable back tilt and height lever to accommodate the user’s lumbar spine curvature. You certainly wouldn't want your tall employees to have stiff necks at the end of each day.

Computer chairs with arm rests are also helpful for employees whose jobs require them to type all day. The material of the computer chair is a rather critical factor as well. Computer chairs in durable synthetic leather may be fine, but many find that computer chairs in cushioned and breathable cloth fabric are so much better.

HP’s High Powered Stand on Used Cartridges

There are two schools of thought when it comes to what happens to an ink cartridge after its ink has been used up. A group of people promotes the idea of reusing such cartridges by replacing some parts of it and refilling it with ink. Others believe it is far better to replace ink cartridges entirely to assure the quality of the ink produced by the cartridge.
Both ideas are equally useful, each having its own share of strengths and weaknesses. It must be noted, however, that not all ink cartridges are open to such options.
The ink cartridges of Hewlett-Packard printers are a different case entirely. It is ill-advised to even try and refill HP ink cartridges, as the move can affect the overall performance of the refilled HP cartridge. The company reasons that even if refilled or remanufactured cartridges are cheaper than new ones, the quality of the print output of refilled cartridges will still be inferior to the output of new ones.

If HP did not decide to finally recycle their used cartridges, their philosophy will most certainly be under fire all the time. However, HP established a cartridge recycling plant in Smyrna, Tennessee, where a multitude of used cartridges are disassembled or shredded to form newer cartridges. This effort by HP to make a compromise to help the environment and still provide ink supplies of good quality is an admirable act.

The Two Types of Printer Cartridges

A printer cartridge can be any one of two things: an ink cartridge or a toner cartridge. The first one is used for inkjet printers. The second is designed for laser printers.

By definition, an ink or inkjet cartridge, is a consumable component of an inkjet printer that holds the ink and print nozzles. A toner cartridge, by comparison, is the replaceable part of a laser printer where the powdery ink or toner is found. The toner cartridge is otherwise known as a laser toner.

Regardless of the type of cartridge that you use, the ink on it would dry up or be used up some time in the future. In other words, you would need to replace your cartridge sooner or later so that it can continue satisfying your printing requirements. Take note, however, that not all printers would alert their users whenever their cartridges are already in need of replacement.

Then again, in case your printer has given out a warning that it's running out of ink, don't rush into securing a replacement just yet. Most of the time, there's still ink left, which will suffice to produce printouts of more than a couple more pages. Disregard the notification until such time that no more ink is transferred onto the paper at all.

Going for Generics: Weighing Your Options

Every office will have at least one printer ready for use. The printer may be from one of the most reputable manufacturers around. So you have a good run with your printer, but then its pre-packed stock of ink cartridges run out. Normally, you are left with only one choice—to acquire fresh ink supplies from the shop that sold you the printer. However, over the course of your search, you come across generic-branded ink cartridges that are of the same configuration as the original ones. The question lingers – do you buy them instead? Some factors may lead you to a certain decision.
First up, the cost of generic ink cartridges are at least half that of a branded model. The value is also compensated by the larger amount of ink per cartridge. If your printer is adjusted to draft mode, you can print more documents and lessen pressure on the machine.

However, beware of the potential pitfalls of getting generic cartridges. Some experts claim that images made on printers using some generic ink cartridges faded immediately when exposed to ultraviolet light. Thus, they can be used only for printing disposable materials. In addition, the biggest concern in generic cartridges is when the printer does not recognize the cartridge.

Draft Mode: An Ink Saver's Best Friend

Ever feel like you're always running out of ink, even when you’ve just put a fresh cartridge several days before? It may be a problem with the printer or with the way you print.

When you know your printer is the best ink-saving model out there, you may want to recheck how you print. Printing on high quality or large, colored photos, for instance, requires a lot of ink. If you want to make photos for your album, there's a photo studio for that. Otherwise, limit your printing to important documents or small images as much as possible.

Draft mode may go by many names, but the typical printer always has the lowest setting as a choice for draft mode. Draft mode prints the fastest, and is ideal for printing multiple, readable copies of any document at a short time. If you can, print only when you need to; upload documents as electronic files for easy sharing across the World Wide Web.

The benefits of printing in draft mode multiply when you choose an ink-saving printer and practice other ink-saving habits—like printing less. This doesn't imply that you need to spend the rest of your life printing in draft. There are printable materials that can only work in higher settings. Case in point: bar codes. Printing them on draft mode won't make them readable in the scanner.

Get the Most Out of Your Ink Toner Cartridges

Ink toner cartridges are not that cheap. If you feel that your cartridge runs out of ink faster than you expect, follow these tips to save on ink:

Ignore out-of-ink warnings – Most of the time, ink toner cartridges are still 8 to 45 percent full when the warning pops up. Printer experts say that a cartridge sends that message not because there is no ink left, but because the toner that remains in it becomes degraded after some time and won’t be able to produce printouts that meet company standards. If your cartridge really has too little ink left, you can use a hair dryer to thin out the ink for a better flow.

Use ink-saving fonts – Changing your default font setting can make a big difference. Avoid chunky fonts and boldface setting. Century Gothic uses 30 percent less ink compared with printouts using the Arial setting. You may have to use extra paper since the font is a little wider, but that’s a slight trade-off.

Change your printer settings – Some default printer settings eat up more ink because of the manufacturer’s high quality standards. Set the print quality to draft, the color to grayscale, and the document options to “print multiple pages per sheet” to produce ink-efficient printouts.

By following these simple tricks, your ink toner should last longer. Meanwhile, to ensure high-quality ink toner cartridges, purchase only from competent office supply vendors.

Ink or Toner—Which Saves More Money?

While digital documents are quickly gaining precedence, people are still surprisingly dependent on printers and printed documents. Just to illustrate, the world uses enough ink to fill 4.5 Olympic-sized swimming pools and enough to print 39 million A-4 sized photos. Unsurprisingly, the ink replacement industry generates a whopping $21 billion a year in revenue.

As anyone who owns a printer knows, replacing ink is a major expense. Many people, thus, look for ways to save on printer toner costs. One of the biggest determiner of cost is the type of printer you own, and by extension what ink it uses—inkjet or toner.

Inkjet Printers

Inkjets use liquid ink stored in cartridges and utilize miniscule sprays to print images onto a page. While inkjet printer cartridges are generally cheaper, their page yield isn’t that high. For people who only print a few documents or images per month, the low cost of the printer itself and the ink it uses may generate greater savings.

Laser Printers

On the other hand, laser printers use metallic powder that is melted onto a page to generate prints. Toners are more expensive than inks but yield pages by the thousands, making them ideal for individuals or businesses that print quite a lot of documents per year.

Found Bound: Using Binders for Easier Later Access

Archiving paper documents is an extremely tiresome task – and recovering these very files on a later date is even more exasperating. Even when properly sorted in a filing cabinet, it’s not unusual for employees to fumble through the archives, scattering documents left and right. Evidently, it’s not enough to just sort files and put them in either cabinets or storage boxes.

Compiling these very documents and organizing them before storage can save workers from the trouble of having to dive through mounds of random papers. The easiest way to do this would be to use office binders. Using an office binder, a business can essentially collate related files and bind them together in a book-like fashion, which is certainly easier to recover and scan through when needed.

Office binders work by binding together papers with a series of unlockable rings along its inner spine. Naturally, papers to be filed into a binder need to have holes punched along their side to fit into the opened rings. Of course, if a document can’t be tampered with or punched, businesses might want to store such files using another method. Otherwise, office binders are extremely effective in sorting files, and they make looking for specific documents a breeze.

Equipped for Education: Buying School Supplies

You can’t just send off your kids to school if they don’t have the necessary school supplies with them. Things like pencils, crayons, notebooks, pens, calculators, and others are required for children to study and participate in class activities. Parents should never let their kids come to school without a complete set of supplies, so before classes begin, they should start shopping for these items.

As with anything that can be bought, buyers will want to acquire their school supplies at a reasonable, if not lower, price. This can be a challenge, considering how prices can be so fickle these days and such items are sure to be slightly costlier than before. Comparing prices among various stores would be too tedious, so parents might want to shop using the Internet for a faster and more convenient experience.

There are numerous sites that offer school supplies and other related merchandise such as school bags and craft materials. While each site is sure to have its own pricing scheme, it’ll be much easier to compare prices between websites versus having to visit multiple physical stores. Buyers might also want to take note that certain stores might lack particular items, though they can always surf the Web until they find what they're looking for. It certainly pays to shop wisely – and online shopping is definitely the smarter choice.
