Tips for Buying Printer Toner Cartridges

There is a wide variety of laser printer ink and toner cartridges available in office supply stores or from online resellers. Oftentimes, buyers are at a a loss choosing which toner cartridge they need. Here's a short, handy checklist of things to consider:

  • Cost Efficiency. One thing to consider about choosing a toner cartridge is the cost. Arguably, toner cartidges of a higher quality may be quite costly upon initial purchase. However, they have a relatively long lifespan, which means that you don't have to keep replacing them from time to time. Furthermore, they guarantee high efficiency, which means more dollars saved on your part.
  • Printer Compatibility. Check which toners are compatible with your printer model. Just because you own a Canon printer, for instance, does not instantly mean that all Canon toner catridges can be used for that specific model. It's best to keep information about your printer's model in hand when going toner catridge shopping.
  • Type of Cartridge. The best option would be the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) cartridges, which are cartidges from the same printer manufacturer (e.g. Canon toner cartridge for a Canon printer). Some sellers also offer remanufactured cartridges that are recycled from old toners, and compatible cartridges, which are not created by the same manufacturer but are compatible with your printer, and are relatively cheaper.
  • Reliable Seller. Aside from reputable office supply stores that carry OEM cartidges, you can also buy from online sellers. But check for warranties that they offer.
